3 killed in truck-autorickshaw collision
Three people, including a mother and daughter, were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-powered autorickshaw on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway.
The accident occurred on the Sunamganj-Sylhet highway in the Bagherkona Shatrumardan area of Shantigonj upazila of Sunamganj on Friday (September 26) morning.
The deceased were autorickshaw driver Sajal Ghosh (40) of Jalsukha village of Ajmiriganj in Habiganj, Ankhi Rani Chowdhury (36) of Nabipur village of Baniachong upazila and her daughter Prothoma Chowdhury (15).
Prothoma Chowdhury was a 7th grade student of Satish Chandra Girls High School in Sunamganj city. They lived in the Ukilpara area of the city. It is learned that the autorickshaw driver Sajal Ghosh lived in the Nabinagar area of the city.
Police and locals said that they were going to Habiganj from Sunamganj city by autorickshaw last Friday morning. On the way, their autorickshaw collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in the Shatrumardan area of Bagherkona in Shantiganj. Autorickshaw drivers Sajal Ghosh and Ankhi Rani Chowdhury died on the spot. Prothoma Chowdhury was taken to the Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
Immediately after the accident, locals arrested the truck driver and handed him over to the police. His name is Parvez Ahmed (35). He is the son of Jalal Uddin of Bhatipara village in Dirai upazila.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shantiganj Police Station Abdul Ahad told us, “Three people, including a mother and daughter, were killed in the road accident. In this incident, locals handed over the truck driver to the police and legal action will be taken later.
