3 killed in shooting near Israeli consulate in Istanbul

Turkish media reported that three people were killed and two police officers were injured in a shooting near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. Reuters video footage showed a police officer taking cover for self-defense when gunfire was heard.
One man was also seen covered in blood. Al Jazeera journalist Sinem Koseoglu said three people were involved in the shooting, who were neutralized by Turkish police.
He added that the consulate building is located in a densely populated area with many international businesses and thousands of people work nearby. Koseoglu said the Israeli consulate is located on the seventh floor of a high-rise building in the area.
“He was standing with his colleague smoking when three people in a car tried to open fire, and the security guards returned fire,” he said, citing a witness. Al Jazeera’s journalist also said that there are currently no Israeli diplomats working in the consulate building in Istanbul or the Israeli embassy in the capital Ankara. As a result, these diplomatic missions are mainly staffed by local staff. No detailed information has been obtained so far about the identity or motive of the attackers. Source: Al Jazeera
