3 injured in clash between two BNP groups in Mithapukur.
Three people, including the union convener of the Swechchhasebak Dal, were injured in a bloody clash between two BNP groups over the control of a bus stand in Mithapukur upazila of Rangpur.
The clash took place at 7 pm on Saturday at Jagir bus stand in Latibpur union of the upazila. At that time, the chase and counter-chase between the two parties created a tense situation in the surrounding areas including the Jagir bus stand overbridge. This stopped the movement of heavy vehicles on the road.
Locals said that there had been a conflict between Jahangir Alam and Fazlul Haque Fazlu over the control of the bus stand for a long time. In order to expand his dominance, Jahangir Alam, the former general secretary of Latibpur union BNP, took a position on the east side of the overbridge to hold a procession. As the procession was moving west of the overbridge, former Latibpur Union BNP president Fazlul Haque Fazlu and his followers launched an ambush and later it turned into a clash.
During the clash between the two sides, Union Volunteer Party convener Sadequl Islam and two others were injured. Later, Mithapukur police arrived and brought the situation under control.
Mithapukur Upazila BNP General Secretary Nixon Paikar said that there was a clash between the president and secretary group while trying to show personal power. Six people have been booked for violating party discipline in this incident. Those involved will be expelled from the organization.
Meanwhile, Mithapukur Police Station Officer-in-Charge OC Abu Bakkar Siddique said that initially we have learned that the clash occurred due to a conflict between two groups of the BNP union committee. One person who was seriously injured in the fight has been admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. No one from either side has complained to the police station about this. The situation is normal at present.
