3 dead in head-on collision between bus and auto-rickshaw in Sunamganj

Three people, including two students, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-powered autorickshaw in Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj. The accident occurred in the Bahadurpur area of the Sunamganj-Sylhet road on Wednesday (August 6) afternoon. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a CNG autorickshaw leaving from Shantiganj was heading towards Sunamganj. When a minibus of Mosku Paribahan coming from the opposite direction reached the Bahadurpur area, the two vehicles collided head-on. CNG passengers Afsana Khushi and Shafiqul Islam were killed on the spot. Snehalata Chakraborty was taken to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital in a serious condition, where doctors from the emergency department declared her dead. The deceased Afsana Khushi and Snehalata Chakraborty were students. The other deceased, Shafiqul Islam, was also a passenger in the autorickshaw. Two more people were injured in the incident and are undergoing treatment. The bus driver fled immediately after the incident. Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abul Kalam said that two people died on the spot and one died in the hospital. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and sent to the morgue. The matter is being investigated.
