3 arrested including 2 Chhatra League leaders in Gaibandha
Police have arrested three people including two leaders of the banned organization Chhatra League in separate raids in Gobindaganj and Sadullapur upazilas of Gaibandha. The arrested are Abu Hossain Md. Nasim Mondal (30) of Sadullapur upazila, Saju Pradhan (35) of Gobindaganj upazila and Shri Gobind Kumar Gautam.
Saju Pradhan was arrested from Nakai Hat area of Gobindaganj upazila on Sunday night (December 28). Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station Mozammel Haque said that two people named Saju and Gautam were arrested in separate raids. Police said that Saju Pradhan is the son of Abdul Majid Pradhan of Shital village of Nakai union. He was a former ward Chhatra League president and is currently working in Abul Khair Group.
On the other hand, Gautam, a lecturer at a college in Sonatala area, was once discussed and criticized for his dispute with former MP Abul Kalam Azad over writing. He was previously close to another former MP from Gobindaganj, Monowar Hossain Chowdhury. He has served a total of 6 months and 10 days in prison in two cases filed under the Information Technology Act. Police said that they will be sent to jail through the court on Monday morning on the pretext of being arrested in a political case.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested a young man named Abu Hossain Md. Nasim Mandal in Sadullapur upazila on the pretext of being a leader of the banned organization Chhatra League. He was sent to jail through the court yesterday afternoon. Police said that he was sent to jail on the pretext of being arrested in a case filed in connection with an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement.
Sadullapur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Alim told us that Nasim was arrested for being the organizing secretary of the Sadullapur upazila committee of the banned organization Chhatra League. He was sent to Sadar police station the night after his arrest. However, regarding the allegation that Nasim was arrested using fake committee documents, he said that the matter is being investigated. Meanwhile, Nasim’s relatives have alleged that he was deliberately framed as a Chhatra League leader. They claim that Nasim was never associated with any political organization and did not hold any position. Last Saturday night, Sadullapur police arrested him from his house adjacent to the post office. The arrested Nasim is the son of the deceased Abdul Mannaf Mondal of Kazibari Santala village of Bongram union in Sadullapur upazila.
