23 Newly Appointed Judges Sworn In
23 newly appointed additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court took oath.
Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed read out the oath of the newly appointed judges at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, at the Judges Lounge of the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed conducted the oath ceremony.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, Supreme Court Appellate and High Court Judges, Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and family members of the sworn judges.
Earlier on Tuesday, the notification regarding this appointment was issued by order of the President.
Md Golam Rabbani, Secretary of the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs signed the notification.
It said that the President has appointed 23 additional judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh for a maximum period of two years from the date of taking the oath of office under Article 98 of the Constitution of Bangladesh. This appointment will be effective from the date of swearing in.
The appointed judges are – Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, Syed Enayet Hossain, Md. Mansoor Alam, Syed Jahed Mansoor, KM Rasheduzzaman Raja, Md. Jabid Hossain, Mubina Asaf, Kazi Waliul Islam, Ainun Nahar Siddika, Md. Abdul Mannan, Tamanna Rahman, Md. , Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud, Md. Hamidur Rahman, Nasreen Akhtar, Sathika Hossain, Syed Mohammad Tazrul Hossain, Md. Taufiq Inam, Yusuf Abdullah Sumon, Sheikh Tahsin Ali, Faiz Ahmed, Md. Sagir Hossain, Shikdar Mahmudur Rahman, Debraj, Md. Chowdhury
This is the biggest appointment of a judge in the Supreme Court after the fall of the Awami League government in the anti-discrimination student movement.
