20 villages in Feni flooded after dam breaks, traffic on Parashuram road blocked
The dams of Muhuri, Kahua and Silonia rivers in northern Feni have broken at 8 places. The erosion started yesterday evening on Tuesday. In some places, the river water is flowing over the embankment. At least 20 villages in Fulgazi and Parashuram upazilas have been flooded. As a result, traffic on Parashuram road has been blocked. The water is rising at a rapid pace. The residents here have spent the night in extreme indescribable suffering. Many have moved to shelters at night to stay safe. The Deputy Commissioner (DC) said that 131 shelters have been opened. Meanwhile, 10 villages including Derpara, Sreepur, Munshirhat, Boriya, Nilakshi have been flooded in Fulgazi. Water has entered the Fulgazi market and shops have been submerged. Uttar Dhanikunda, Madhyam Dhanikunda, Rampur, Durgapur and Ratanpur in Parashuram upazila have been flooded. Apart from this, water is entering the Bangladeshi side of the Indian side at Ballamukha in Parshuram by breaking the dam.Executive Engineer of the Water Development Board, Akter Hossain, said that the water of the Muhuri River is flowing 137 centimeters above the danger level. Continuous rains for the last two days have caused waterlogging in various areas of Feni city. The water has now started receding from these areas. However, even though the water has receded from the low-lying houses in those areas, it is still not suitable for living. They are spending the night in extreme suffering.
