2 youths including a motorcyclist killed in truck accident
Two youths including a motorcyclist were killed in a truck accident in Barisal. The accident occurred on the Barisal-Jhalakathi inter-highway in front of Rupatali Ukilbari in the city late on Friday (January 2) night. Kotwali Model Police Station OC Mamun Ul Islam confirmed this information. The deceased were identified as Jewel (28), a resident of Rupatali, and Russell (25), a resident of Ruwar Pol area. Both of them were working as helpers at ACI Animal Health Store.
Kotwali Police said that Jewel and Russell were going towards Rupatali Bus Terminal on a motorcycle to have breakfast after finishing their work around 12 midnight yesterday. At that time, a Jhalakathi-bound truck (Kushtia-T 11-2545) came from the opposite direction at a reckless speed and hit the motorcycle. Russell died on the spot. Locals rescued the seriously injured Jewel and took him to Shebachim Hospital in Barisal, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Earlier, immediately after the accident, the driver and helper fled the truck on the road, seeing the situation as dangerous. Kotwali Model Police Station OC Al Mamun Ul Islam said that the police are taking steps to arrest the two. He said that after receiving the information, the police visited the scene. The body was recovered and sent to the Shebachim Hospital morgue. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received in this incident. He also said that the police are trying to arrest the driver and helper.
