2 killed in truck collision in Mirsarai

A speeding truck in Mirsarai, Chittagong, killed two people, including a madrasa student, when it hit a stationary CNG-powered autorickshaw. At least three others were seriously injured in the incident. After the accident, the truck lost control and fell into a pond on the side of the highway. The tragic accident occurred in front of the Jahedia Madrasa in the Baratakia Bazar area of ​​the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at around 9:30 am today, Wednesday (January 28).
Witnesses said that the CNG-powered autorickshaw was standing on the side of the road to pick up and drop off passengers. At that time, a speeding truck headed to Chittagong lost control and hit the back of the CNG. As a result, the CNG overturned and two people died on the spot.
It is learned that one of the deceased is Khadija Mashmum, a class 10 student of Baratakia Jahedia Dakhil Madrasa. The other was a pedestrian. Her identity was not immediately known. Three people injured in the accident have been rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Eyewitness Hafez Shahabuddin said, “The CNG was stopped and the passengers were being disembarked. Suddenly, a truck came and hit it hard. The truck immediately fell into the pond. Both died on the spot.”
Dr. Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury, the doctor in charge of Bartakia Radiance Hospital, said that two students were brought to the hospital after the accident. One of them died. After primary treatment, the other was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Another eyewitness Imam Uddin Manju said, “A terrible accident happened before my eyes. My chest is still shaking.”
Chittagong District Police Assistant Superintendent of Police (Mirsarai Circle) Nadim Haider said, “Upon receiving the news of the accident, the police and fire service were quickly sent to the scene. Two people were killed and three others are undergoing treatment at the hospital with injuries. Although there was a heavy traffic jam on the Chittagong-bound lane after the accident, the situation returned to normal after the rescue operation. After the accident, members of the fire service and Zorarganj Highway Police worked to rescue and maintain normal traffic flow.”
