    2 dead bodies recovered in oil tanker fire incident

    The bodies of 2 people have been recovered after the explosion in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation’s oil tanker ‘Banglar Jyoti’ anchored at Chittagong port. Besides, one is still missing. On Monday around 11:15 a.m. the ship caught fire.

    One of the casualties was Sourav, the ship’s deck cadet. The dismembered body of the other person could not be identified.

    Bangladesh Navy’s Chittagong Area Commander Masood Iqbal confirmed the matter. He said that the charred body of Cadet Sourav was hanging from a pipe. The body of another person scattered in the explosion was found nearby.

    Abdul Wadud, president of Seamen’s Association of Shipping Corporation, says, ‘Cadet Sourav, Foreman Nurul Islam (45) and casual staff Harun were on the list of missing in this accident. The other body parts found in this case are supposed to belong to Nurul Islam or Harun.

    The vessel was discharging crude oil at the port’s Eastern Refinery Wharf. It contained 10,000 tons of crude oil. Today around 11:15 pm, the fire caught fire after an explosion in its front part. On receiving the information, Navy, Coast Guard and Fire Service personnel quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control around 12:30 PM.

    The officials of the port say, ‘Five tugboats of the port authority and one tugboat of the navy went to the spot on the news of the fire. Arrangements were made to safely evacuate nearby vessels. The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
