176 more Bangladeshis return from Libya
176 Bangladeshis who were illegally detained, endangered and trafficked in Libya have returned home. They arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 4:15 am on Thursday.
It is learnt that they arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this morning on a Buraq Air flight with the assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has said that two more flights will be sent back to the country on March 19 and 26 to send more than 300 Bangladeshi citizens.
The embassy said that the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya has sent back 176 Bangladeshi citizens with the assistance of IOM through continuous and coordinated efforts. Of them, 106 were detained at the Tajura Detention Center in Tripoli and the remaining 70 returned home voluntarily from dangerous situations.
Since 2017, more than 9,000 Bangladeshi citizens have been brought back to the country under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya. In particular, a total of 4,405 Bangladeshi citizens have been safely repatriated from the embassy since July 2023.
