    17 men’s and women’s football teams receive Ekushey Padak

    In recognition of their outstanding contributions in various fields, the interim government’s Chief Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus presented the Ekushey Padak to 18 distinguished individuals, including the women’s football team, in a special ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital at 11 am on Thursday.

    The medal winners received their medals from the Chief Advisor. The posthumous Ekushey Padak winners were received by their family members on behalf of their families. Each medal winner was given a check of Tk 4 lakh, a gold medal weighing 35 grams, a replica and a certificate of honor.

    This year’s Ekushey Padak recipients are – Azizur Rahman (posthumously) in film, Ustad Nirad Baran Barua (posthumously) and Ferdous Ara in music, Nasir Ali Mamun in photography and Rokeya Sultana in painting. Mahfuz Ullah in journalism (posthumous), Moidul Hasan in research, Dr. Niaz Zaman in education.

    In addition, Mehdi Hasan Khan (party leader), Rifat Nabi (party member), Md. Tanbin Islam Siam (party member) and Shabab Mustafa (party member) in science and technology. Mohammad Yusuf Chowdhury (posthumous) in social service, Helal Hafiz (posthumous) and Shahidul Zahir (Md. Shahidul Haque) (posthumous) in language and literature. Mahmudur Rahman in journalism and human rights, Dr. Shahidul Alam in culture and education and Bangladesh national women’s football team in sports.

    Earlier, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the names of the nominees for the Ekushey Padak on February 6.

    Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid announced the names and introductions of the medal recipients at the event. The event was presided over by Cultural Affairs Advisor Mustafa Sarwar Farooqui. The welcome address was delivered by Additional Secretary Md. Mofidur Rahman, who is on routine duty as Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

    Incidentally, the Bangladesh government awards the Ekushey Padak every year in memory of the martyrs of the Language Movement. This award, which was started in 1976, has been given in recognition of the contributions of the country’s prominent writers, artists, educationists, researchers, journalists, language warriors, economists and social workers.

    Like every time, this time too, prominent personalities of the country, high-ranking government and administration officials were present at the ceremony organized in honor of the Ekushey Padak recipients.
