17 killed in bus accident in Brazil

At least 17 people have been killed in a bus accident in Brazil. 11 of the dead were women. The bus overturned after the driver lost control while traveling at night.
The country’s Federal Highway Police said the accident occurred on Friday night (October 17) in the northeastern state of Pernambuco. The news agency AP reported this information in a report on Saturday night (October 18).
A police statement said that shortly before 8 pm local time on Friday, the driver of the bus lost control and crossed into the opposite lane. The bus then hit a rock lying on the side of the road, hit a sandbank and overturned.
The exact cause of the accident is not yet known.
According to a list obtained by the police, there were a total of 30 passengers on the bus. Of these, 15 have been confirmed dead so far. Among the dead are 11 women and 6 men. The exact number of injured has not yet been released.
Police said that the driver suffered minor injuries in the accident. Police believe some passengers may have been sitting without seatbelts at the time of the accident.
