16 killed in bus crash in Indonesia
A bus overturned in Indonesia early Monday (November 22). The head of the local search and rescue agency, Budiono, said in a statement that the bus was traveling from the capital Jakarta to Yogyakarta. It was traveling at a “very high” speed when it reached a highway interchange. The bus overturned after hitting the road. Budiono said that we have rescued 34 people. Fifteen were pronounced dead at the scene and one more died in hospital.
He said several people were taken to the city of Semarang for treatment. Footage shared by the agency showed rescuers carrying a body in a bag. Transport accidents have become very common in the Southeast Asian country, where old vehicles are poorly maintained and road rules are routinely violated.
