15 injured as passenger bus falls into ditch in Sunamganj
A bus of Taif Paribahan, bound for Sunamganj from Dhaka, lost control of the roof on the Sylhet-Sunamganj highway and fell into a ditch on the side of the road. The accident occurred on Saturday (August 23) morning in the Sahebnagar area of the regional highway. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joykals Highway Police Station Sumon Kumar Chowdhury said that the driver lost control when the bus reached the Sahebnagar area of Chhatak upazila. Later, the bus overturned while being lowered into the ditch on the side of the road. He said that the bus driver and helper fled after the accident. Police went to the spot and rescued the bus. During this time, one person was rescued with the help of the local fire service and sent to Mount Edora Hospital in Sylhet. Two other injured passengers received treatment locally. Locals said that there were about 10-15 passengers in the bus. All were injured to some extent. Several of the injured have received treatment at Kaitak Hospital. Locals said the driver was losing control of the bus while sitting on the steering wheel. If the accident had happened three kilometers ahead, the bus would have fallen into the water of the haor and the casualties could have increased.
