14 Secretariat officials and employees suspended
Fourteen Secretariat officials and employees arrested for their involvement in the movement demanding ‘secretary allowance’ have been temporarily suspended. Earlier, the court had sent them on a five-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Among those suspended are Bangladesh Secretariat Officials and Employees Sangukya Parishad President Badiul Kabir, Vice-President Shahin Golam Rabbani and Nazrul Islam. Sources in the concerned ministries and departments confirmed that they were temporarily suspended in multiple circulars issued last Monday.
The others suspended are – Administrative Officer of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Roman Gazi, Office Assistant of the Ministry of Health Abu Belal, Office Assistant of the Ministry of Public Administration Kamal Hossain, Personal Officer of the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health Md. Tayeful Islam, Office Assistant of the Ministry of Finance Bipul Rana Biplob, Office Assistant of the Ministry of Public Administration Md. Alimuzzaman, Health Ministry Administrative Officer Bikash Chandra Roy, Health Ministry employees Islamul Haque and Md. Mohsin Ali, Information Ministry Office Assistant and Joint Council Publicity Secretary Mizanur Rahman Sumon, and Cabinet Division Office Assistant Nasirul Haque.
On December 10, government employees blocked Financial Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed at the Secretariat for about seven hours, demanding ‘secretariat allowance’. Later, he returned home at around 8:15 pm with the help of police. The next day, the protesters blocked the road to the Secretariat and staged a protest and were arrested in turn by law enforcement officials.
