13 injured in BNP-Jamaat clash in Chuadanga

13 people were injured in BNP-Jamaat clashes at two separate places in Chuadanga over the hanging of billboards and symbols. The clash took place at around 5 pm on Tuesday (November 18) in Shyampur village of Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga-1 constituency. According to eyewitness sources, at least 11 people, including a female UP member, were injured in the clash. Two motorcycles were vandalized during the clash. The injured have been admitted to Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex and a local clinic.
The injured BNP leaders and activists are Alamdanga Municipality Jubo Dal joint convener Saiful Islam Kanak, members Sajahan and Alim, Kumari Union BNP organizing secretary Taizel Hossain, Ward No. 1 female UP member Roksana Khatun and her husband Rashidul Islam. Meanwhile, the injured on the Jamaat side are Harun’s son Murad Ali, Mahatab’s son Arif, Palash’s son Laltu, Sadek Ali’s son Oltu and his daughter Fatema Khatun. In this regard, Alamdanga Upazila BNP General Secretary Aminul Islam Rokon said, “Juba League workers have planned an attack on us under the cover of Jamaat. Six of our leaders and activists are injured and undergoing treatment.”
Aldanga Upazila Jamaat Amir Shafiul Alam Bakul said, “When we went to hang the scales, a female BNP UP member and her husband stopped us. Later, BNP leaders and activists attacked our house. This resulted in a clash.” Alamdanga Police Station OC Masudur Rahman said, “On receiving the news, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Currently, additional police are deployed in the area.”
On the other hand, intense tension arose between BNP and Jamaat supporters over the installation of billboards in Kamarpara village of Madna-Parkrishnapur union of Darshana police station in Chuadanga-2 constituency. Due to the dispute that started in the morning, two people were injured in a clash between both sides in the afternoon. The injured are Jamaat supporter Khwaja and BNP supporter Azizul Islam. Locals said that the injured were given first aid on the spot. Both sides are blaming each other for the origin and responsibility of the clash. In this regard, Darshana police station inspector (investigation) Sultan Mahmud said, ‘There was a fight between Jamaat and BNP supporters over the installation of billboards. I heard that two people were injured. No formal complaint has been filed so far. Necessary legal action will be taken. If any complaint is found.
