124 crore taka allocated for renovation of 12,500 unused polling stations

Ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections, the Finance Ministry has allocated a special allocation of 124 crore taka for the renovation and repair of 12,531 unusable government primary schools used as polling stations. Many of these schools do not have boundary walls and have dilapidated doors and windows, posing a security risk.
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education is seeking this money based on field reports on the instructions of the Election Commission. Since there is no allocation for this sector in the regular budget of the current 2025-26 fiscal year, a special allocation was made outside the budget considering the importance of the national elections. This additional allocation became necessary as funds for other related maintenance sectors have already run out.
