12 killed in heavy rains, landslides in Kashmir during Maashel Mata Yatra
At least 12 people have died in floods caused by heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir’s Chashoti. According to Hindustan Times, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered the district administration, police, Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state disaster management teams to carry out rescue operations. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that there has been heavy rain in the Chashoti area of Kishtwar. A natural disaster has occurred there and it has happened on the route of the Machel Yatra. The Union Minister claimed that everyone is shocked by the whole incident. This time the 30-kilometer Machel Yatra has started from July 25. One has to trek to reach the ‘Machel Mata’ temple (Durga Temple). This yatra, one of the most popular in Jammu and Kashmir, was supposed to continue till September 5. Thousands of pilgrims participated in it. Considering the situation, the Machel Mata Yatra has finally been postponed.
