12 injured in Jamaat-BNP clash in Jhenaidah
At least 12 people from both sides were injured in a clash between BNP and Jamaat in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. The clash took place in Madhabpur village of Ganna Union of Sadar Upazila on Friday (March 13) morning.
Locals said that Jamaat’s female workers started training at Ohidul’s house in Madhabpur village yesterday morning. After the training, they were supposed to have an iftar party at that house. After receiving news of the training of Jamaat’s female workers around 11 am, BNP leader Toru Munshi, his son Shipon Munshi, Hossain Ali, Shahidul Islam, Nayeb Ali, Abdul Khalek and Akbar Ali and a few others went to the spot and asked them to stop the training. This led to the clash.
Abdul Alim, investigation officer of the local Betai Police Camp, said that Jamaat’s female workers gathered at Ohidul’s house in Madhabpur village yesterday for training. Seeing them gathering, the president of the neighboring ward BNP, Ilias Hossain, wanted to know the reason. At one point in the argument, a clash broke out between the two sides. Several workers and supporters of BNP and Jamaat were injured in the clash. In this regard, Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Sheikh Billal Hossain said, “Reports of a fight between Jamaat and BNP have been received. Additional police have been deployed at the scene to defuse tension and avoid possible clashes.”
