12 gamblers arrested in army operation in Panchagarh, lakhs of rupees and mobile phones recovered

12 gamblers have been arrested in a raid by the army in the municipal area of Panchagarh. Along with this, 13 mobile phones worth over 2 lakhs have been seized. On Sunday (August 18) night, the commander of the Panchagarh Army Camp, Major Adnan Morshed Al Haque, led the raid conducted in the Dokropara area of the municipality. Later, the army handed over the arrested gamblers to the Sadar Police Station. A regular case has been filed against the arrested people at the police station. The accused are scheduled to be produced in court on Monday afternoon. According to the raid sources, a gambling business was going on at the house of Mohammad Shamim Al Mamun, General Secretary of the Bus, Minibus, Coach, Microbus Transport Workers Union, in the Dokropara area of Panchagarh Municipality. Later, the army conducted a raid there based on secret information. At that time, two lakh 13 thousand 790 taka, nine button phones and four smart phones were seized. It is known that Mamun used to run gambling parties at home every day, claiming himself to be a BNP leader. A team of police including Sadar Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Hafizur Rahman were present in the operation. Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Hill Zaman said that regular cases have been filed against the 12 arrested gamblers. Arrangements are being made to send them to court.
