11-Party Unity Calls for Protest Rally in Dhaka

On the sixth day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament, opposition MPs have called for a protest program following the warning issued by the MPs to take to the streets yesterday afternoon. The Jamaat-led 11-Party Unity will hold a protest rally at the north gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Saturday (April 4) demanding the implementation of the July Charter and constitutional reforms as per the referendum results.
Hamidur Rahman Azad, Coordinator of the 11-Party Unity and Assistant Secretary General of Jamaat, told reporters after a meeting in Gulshan, the capital, on Thursday (April 2). Earlier, at 12 noon, the meeting held under the chairmanship of Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman was attended by top leaders of other parties in the unity.
Hamidur Rahman Azad said that in today’s meeting of the 11 parties, it was decided that they have no other option but to take to the streets to protest. If the government does not take immediate steps to implement the referendum verdict, the 11 parties will meet on April 7 and announce the outline of a long-term movement.
He alleged that the ruling party has shown failure in running the parliament. The government only wants to bring amendments to the constitution under the guise of reforms. The current government is walking on a fascist path like Sheikh Hasina. At this time, Hamidur Rahman Azad criticized the ruling party for raising an adjournment motion in the parliament and failing to solve the energy crisis.
