11 armed robbers arrested, one shot dead
The Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested 11 armed robbers in a sea operation. One robber died after being shot. Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul Haque gave this information on Sunday (January 11).
He said, “Based on confidential information, it is known that an organized gang of robbers is staying in a fishing boat in the Kalatali sea area of Cox’s Bazar for the purpose of robbery. A Coast Guard team conducted a special operation in the area. During the operation, when two suspicious fishing boats were signaled to stop, one boat quickly sped away and opened fire on the Coast Guard members from the other boat. At this time, the Coast Guard members returned fire in self-defense and one member of the gang of robbers was shot dead. His name is Md. Anis (40).’
Later, the boat was seized and searched and 19 robbers were arrested along with 1 country-made firearm, 2 rounds of live cartridges and 11 country-made weapons. Later, the bullet-injured robber was rescued and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for treatment. While undergoing treatment there, the doctor on duty declared the bullet-injured robber dead at midnight last Saturday. The arrested robbers have been handed over to the police along with all the seized evidence. An application has been filed with Cox’s Bazar Model Police Station for further legal action. Siam-ul-Haq also said that the Coast Guard will continue such operations in the future.
