104 killed in revenge for soldier’s death!
Israel has launched a massive airstrike on Gaza after an Israeli soldier was killed. Gaza health authorities said at least 104 Palestinians were killed. Among the dead were 46 children and 20 women. Reuters reported.
Israel said on Wednesday (October 29) that it remained committed to upholding a US-backed ceasefire. However, the attack was carried out in retaliation for the soldier’s death. The Israeli army said the attack targeted an arms depot near Beit Lahia in northern Gaza.
Earlier, an Israeli soldier was killed in Gaza on Tuesday. The incident has escalated violence there to the highest level since a two-year ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump came into effect on October 10.
Israel accused Hamas of killing one of its soldiers in an attack inside the “Yellow Line” in Gaza on Tuesday. Hamas, however, denied the allegations. Israel described yesterday’s attack as a targeted attack near Beit Lahiya in the north, where it claimed there were weapons caches.
The Israeli army said it would abide by the ceasefire agreement by responding harshly to any violations. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the goal we set with President Trump – to disarm Hamas from Gaza and keep the territory militarily neutral – would be ensured.
In response to the death of a soldier, the army carried out strikes targeting dozens of Hamas members across the valley, as well as the group’s weapons depots and tunnels. The strikes targeted 24 Hamas members, including a Hamas commander who was described as having participated in an attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Health Ministry said that 46 children and 20 women were among the 104 people killed in the Israeli airstrikes. According to neighbors, the entire Abu Dalal family was killed in an attack in Nusseira, Gaza. Locals held a mourning procession with bodies recovered from the rubble.
Meanwhile, the media office of the Hamas-controlled Gaza government rejected the Israeli claim in a statement, saying it was a series of lies by Israel to cover up war crimes committed against civilians. However, US President Trump said that the ceasefire was not yet in danger. He said that if the Israelis attack, they will respond – that is normal.
Trump has highlighted the ceasefire and the hostage-taking agreement as one of the top foreign policy achievements of his second term. Meanwhile, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, who acted as a mediator, described the violence as “deeply disappointing and worrying”.
