1 killed in head-on collision between two motorcycles in Meherpur

A schoolboy named Rakesh Ahmed (17) was killed and 2 others were injured in a head-on collision between two motorcycles in Gangni, Meherpur. The incident took place at around 10 am today (December 14) in the Bamondi bus stand area of ​​Gangni upazila on the Meherpur-Kushtia regional highway.
It is learned that Rakesh Ahmed is the son of Md. Kamirul Islam of Terail village in the upazila. He is a class 10 student of Nishipur School and College in Bamondi. The injured are Avik Ahmed (28), son of Abdul Baki of Meherpur, and Shayan Ali (16), son of Minkul Islam of Bamondi.
Locals said that when Rakesh Ahmed was speeding from Terail to Bamondi bus stand on his motorcycle, he collided head-on with another speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Rakesh, who was seriously injured, was taken to a local clinic on the spot, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Meanwhile, injured Shayan was referred to Kushtia Medical College Hospital as his condition was critical. It is learnt that injured Abhi is undergoing treatment at a local hospital. Locals said that the risk of accidents is increasing due to parking of auto-rickshaws and vans at Bamondi bus stand. However, the number of accidents will increase further if administrative measures are not taken.
Bamondi Central Hospital doctor Mahfuzur Rahman said, “Rakesh Ahmed, who was injured in the road accident, died before being taken to the hospital.” Gangni Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Uttam Kumar Das told us, “Police have been sent to the spot after receiving information about the accident. Legal action will be taken later.”
