BNP leader threatens suicide in front of police station

Md. Billal Hossain Bepari, member secretary of Sreepur Municipality BNP in Gazipur, has accused social media platform Facebook of spreading ‘slander’ against him and demanded that the culprits be identified within 12 hours. He has also announced that if the police fail to show any progress within the stipulated time, he will commit suicide in front of the police station.
He made this announcement in the presence of Gazipur Police Superintendent Sharif Uddin at an exchange meeting on anti-drug and terrorism organized by Sreepur Police Station on Sunday afternoon (August 2). Billal Hossain Bepari is a resident of Kewa village in Sreepur Municipality and is a member secretary of Sreepur Municipality BNP.
In his statement, Billal Hossain Bepari alleged that an edited photo of him, including a few liquor bottles placed on a table and two others, was circulated on social media from some fake Facebook IDs. He claimed that this has tarnished his personal and political reputation.
The BNP leader said, “I filed a general diary (GD) with Sreepur police station as soon as I came to know about the matter. However, the police have not shown any visible progress in this regard so far.” Addressing the police superintendent, Billal Hossain Bepari said, “If the miscreants are not identified within the next 12 hours, I will commit suicide in front of the police station.” He raised the question, “If there is no effective remedy even for the complaint of a municipal BNP leader, how will the common man get police services?” Gazipur Police Superintendent Sharif Uddin was the chief guest at the meeting held under the chairmanship of Sreepur Police Station OC Mohammad Shahinur Alam. Leaders and workers of various political parties, teachers, journalists and people from different classes and professions were present at the meeting. Gazipur Police Superintendent Sharif Uddin told Jugantor, “I have ensured justice based on the statement of Sreepur Municipality BNP Member Secretary Billal Hossain Bepari. I have assured that members of the law enforcement agencies will stand by every citizen and ensure justice.”
