Hill Tracts Secretary announces expansion of hill fruit market and establishment of cold storage in the capital

All kinds of facilities will be ensured for the marketing, display, marketing and preservation of delicious and chemical-free fruits produced in the hill tracts in the capital Dhaka, said Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Mohammad Mizanur Rahman. He announced that as per the instructions of the Honorable State Minister, one cold storage or cold storage will be established in each upazila of the three hill tracts districts for the preservation and maintenance of fruits.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the closing and award distribution ceremony of the three-day ‘Hill Fruit Fair-2026’ organized at the auditorium of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex Building on Bailey Road in the capital.

The program, chaired by Monirul Islam, was addressed by Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Konkan Chakma, Chairman of Rangamati Hill Tracts District Council, Krishibid Kajal Talukder, Chairman of Khagrachhari Hill Tracts District Council, Shefalika Tripura, and Chief Executive Officer of Rangamati Hill Tracts District Council, Khondaker Rizaul Karim, among others. The program was moderated by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Mongal Chandra Pal.
In his speech as the chief guest, Secretary Mohammad Mizanur Rahman expressed his sincere gratitude to all concerned for successfully completing the fair. He said that everyone’s cooperation was very positive in completing the Pahari Fruit Fair properly. The spontaneity seen among the entrepreneurs of the three hill districts in this year’s fair is very promising. He further added that the minor problems identified in the management of the fair this time will be corrected in the future and the fair will be organized in a cleaner and more orderly manner. At the same time, he highly appreciated the aesthetic and traditional cultural performances of local artists every evening at the fair premises.
On behalf of the entrepreneurs of the hilly region, Binita Chakma, owner of ‘Zoom Ghar’ in Rangamati, Chongreng Mro of Bandarban and Konkana Chakma of Khagrachari expressed their satisfaction with the overall management of the fair and the excellent opportunity to sell fruits. At the end of the speech, special awards were distributed among the best entrepreneurs who participated in the fair.
It is worth noting that this fair was held from June 27 to June 29 at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex premises on Bailey Road, organized by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs. The fair was completely open to the public from 10 am to 8 pm every day. Entrepreneurs from remote hilly areas have set up stalls of delicious and chemical-free seasonal fruits like mango, pineapple, jackfruit, banana, as well as rare wild bloodroot (rosco), rambutan and bunobel in a total of 30 stalls over the past three days. According to the organizing committee, this year’s hill fruit fair has achieved success due to the spontaneous purchase of hill fruits by the visitors.
