University student dies in motorcycle accident on way to watch game

A university student named Arafat Rahman Shaon (20) was killed in a motorcycle accident on his way to watch a game in the capital’s Fakirapul area. He was a first-year BBA student at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB). He was scheduled to leave for Australia for higher studies eight days later.
The accident occurred in front of the Fakirapul water tank at around 11pm last Monday (June 22). He was rescued in a serious condition and taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead at 12:10am.
His friend Anif, who brought Shaon to the hospital, said that they left for Wari on two motorcycles to watch the Argentina game at night. When they reached the Fakirapul water tank, a pedestrian named Shahjahan suddenly came in front of the motorcycle. While trying to save him, the motorcycle lost control and met with an accident. Shaon and the pedestrian were seriously injured. Later, with the help of locals, he was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor declared Shaon dead. The injured pedestrian Shahjahan has been admitted to the hospital.
Anif further said that Shaon was supposed to go to Australia for higher education on June 30. All the necessary preparations for this had been completed and the related expenses had also been paid. But in an instant, all his dreams ended in this sudden accident. The village home of the deceased Shaon is in the Ansar Ali Road area of ​​Bara Deora in Gazipur district. He is the only child of Lutfur Rahman and Sultana Akhter. Currently, he lives with his family in the Madhubagh (Mirbagh) area of ​​Moghbazar under Hatirjheel police station in the capital.
Shaon’s mother Sultana Akhter, tearfully standing next to her son’s body in the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said, “A while ago, I fed my son rice with my own hands. And only eight days later, he was supposed to go abroad. All preparations were complete. But today he left us. I can’t accept this death in any way.” Mohammad Faruq, in-charge (inspector) of the police box at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, confirmed Shaon’s death, quoting a doctor. He said that the body has been kept in the morgue of the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station. He also said that according to the emergency department doctor, Shaon died due to excessive bleeding and serious injuries to the head and left eye. The condition of Shahjahan, a pedestrian injured in the same accident, is also critical.
