The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health said, 25,000 midwives will be appointed in the next 3-4 years. There will be two midwives in each union. Besides, there will be an adequate number of midwives at the upazila and district levels. Currently, there are less than 3,000 midwives. What is there is not enough. This number is very inadequate. He also said that efforts are being made to appoint one-third of the midwives within a year. Work is already underway in this regard.
The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health said, work is underway to strengthen primary healthcare across the country. We want to strengthen primary healthcare. Health workers will go door to door to provide preventive services. He added that there are currently 14,000 community clinics. More health centers like community clinics will be needed. Their work will include blood pressure measurement, screening, basic health check-ups and various other things. Above all, the main point is—we want to revamp primary healthcare.
