Accused in rape of mother and daughter during robbery have given confessional statements
The accused in the gang rape of a mother and daughter during a robbery at a house in Purbabar Bheola Union of the newly formed Matamuhuri Upazila of Cox’s Bazar have given confessional statements. Yesterday, Wednesday (June 10), a woman from the victim’s family filed a case with the Chakaria Police Station against 7 people as plaintiffs and 5 to 6 more as anonymous accusers. Five accused have been arrested in this case.
They are – Tofazzal Hossain alias Babu (23), son of the late Alamgir Faruk of Dalunighona area of the former Viola Union of the upazila, and his brother Kefayet Hossain alias Puitya (25), son of Moni Alam of the same area, Mohammad Tanjid (25), son of Bashir Ahmed of the former Viola Union, and Mohammad Tarek (26), son of Abu Taher of Koralkhali area of Saharbil Union.
Among them, Mehedi Hasan and Mohammad Tarek gave voluntary confessional statements at the Chakaria Upazila Senior Judicial Magistrate Court around 7 pm on Wednesday, admitting their involvement in the robbery and rape case under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Meanwhile, the investigating officer of the case, In-charge (Inspector) of the Matamuhuri Police Station Investigation Center, Mohammad Masud, confirmed that the court judge, Muhammad Farhan Sadiq, recorded the statements of the two accused in his private room. He said that after recording the confessional statements, the court ordered the five arrested accused to be sent to jail.
On the other hand, Chakaria Police Station OC Mohammad Monir Hossain confirmed that a case has been filed under the relevant sections in the robbery and rape incident. In a press release sent to the media on Wednesday afternoon, he said that the police have already arrested 5 robbers involved in the robbery and rape incident that took place in Purbavar Bheola Union under Chakaria Police Station.
