Salman Shah’s body to be exhumed from grave

A new twist has come to the death case of film star Salman Shah after almost three decades. The court has allowed his body to be exhumed from the grave and a re-autopsy to uncover the real cause of the murder. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana gave this order on May 24. The court took this decision following the application of CID Inspector Ziaul Morshed, the investigating officer of the case.
The investigating officer said that Salman Shah’s body will be exhumed from the graveyard adjacent to Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine in Sylhet in the presence of the executive magistrate. Then the autopsy report will be prepared and the autopsy will be completed. The next step will be taken only after the necessary administrative procedures in this regard are completed.
According to the case documents, Salman Shah was found unconscious at his New Eskaton residence on September 6, 1996. Family members first took him to Holy Family Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The popular actor was later buried in Sylhet after the autopsy.
On October 21 last year, Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed a murder case at the capital’s Ramna police station. Earlier, on October 20 of the same year, the Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka ordered to accept the old accidental death case as a murder case.
Seventeen people, including Salman Shah’s ex-wife Samira Haque, businessman and former film producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai, have been accused in this case. In addition, several other unidentified persons have also been accused. The complaint states that on the day of the incident, Salman Shah’s family members went to his house and found him dead in the bedroom. It is claimed that on the way to the hospital, they found rope marks on his neck and injury marks on various parts of his body. The plaintiff alleged that the accused had planned and conspired with each other to kill Salman Shah.
