Death toll in Philippines earthquake rises to 37

The death toll from a 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Philippines has risen to 37. More than 150 people have been injured in the incident. 31 bodies have been recovered from the rubble in the country’s Saskatchewan region. Several people are still missing. The country’s civil defense authorities confirmed this information. In addition, more than 10,000 residents have lost their homes.
The earthquake struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Monday morning local time. Its epicenter was just 6.5 miles below the surface. About 140 aftershocks ranging from one to six in magnitude were felt in the surrounding area after the earthquake. A temporary tsunami warning has been issued in several Asian countries, including the Philippines, following the incident. An estimated 25 million people live on Mindanao, the second largest island in the Philippines.
