10 injured in Chhatra Dal-Shibir clash in Ishwardi
A chase, cocktail explosion and vandalism took place in the Ishwardi Government College area of Pabna amid a counter-programme between Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in this. The incident took place on Thursday (April 23) at around 11 am. According to police and local sources, Ishwardi Government College Chhatra Dal held a protest march yesterday (April 22) in protest against the attack on Chhatra Dal at Chittagong City College.
In continuation of this, Chhatra Dal leaders and workers started gathering in the campus area since morning to hold a pre-announced program today. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, Chhatra Shibir leaders and workers took out a procession and left for the city at around 12:45 pm. At this time, Chhatra Dal leaders and workers threw bricks and stones, causing the procession to disperse and tension spread between the two sides. Later, a chase and counter-chase began.
Upon receiving the news, the police went to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. At that time, Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists displayed indigenous weapons by bursting cocktails and vandalizing a Chhatra Dal office. Later, they went to the Railgate area with sticks and wooden poles and protested. Amjad Hossain, principal of Ishwardi Government College, said that although both sides sought permission to hold a procession on the campus, the clash took place outside the campus. No incident occurred inside the college.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman Asad said that additional police have been deployed in the area to bring the situation under control. No written complaint has been received so far. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received.
