Housewife commits suicide over quarrel with mother-in-law

It is learnt that a housewife named Sumaiya Akhter (23) committed suicide over a quarrel with her mother-in-law in Nangalkot, Comilla. The incident took place at around 11 am yesterday (April 18) at the house of Periya Majumdar in Periya Union of the upazila. The deceased Sumaiya is the wife of an auto driver from the area, Kasem, and they have a three-year-old child.
It is learnt that they were married about five years ago. She had been having a dispute with her mother-in-law, Shamchunnahar, over various family matters for the past year. Yesterday morning, at one point during an argument with her mother-in-law, Sumaiya went to her house and hung herself from a ceiling fan with a veil. Later, her family members came to know about the matter and rescued her and took her to Nangalkot Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
The hospital’s medical officer, Dr. Advitiya Ghosh said there were injury marks on his neck and he was brought dead to the hospital. Nangalkot Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman said, “Police reached the spot after receiving the information. The body has been sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital for autopsy.”
