Awami League leader dies in Jamalpur jail

Jamalpur District Awami League Advisory Council member and agriculturist Ziaul Haque Zia has died in jail. Jamalpur District Jail Superintendent Mohammad Shafiul Alam confirmed this information on Wednesday (April 15) afternoon.
According to prison sources, Ziaul Haque Zia suddenly fell ill after eating lunch on Tuesday (April 14). Later, he was taken to Jamalpur General Hospital and treated until 5 pm. As his condition did not improve, he was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. The doctor on duty at Mymensingh Medical declared him dead at night.
Ziaul Haque Zia was arrested on January 15 in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (AC) and was in Jamalpur District Jail. He was suffering from various complex diseases including diabetes. Jail Superintendent Mohammad Shafiul Alam said that he was rushed to the hospital after he suddenly fell ill after lunch. He was later transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment, but he died while undergoing treatment.
