Iran’s Supreme Leader is Mojtaba Khamenei

Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, the son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been elected as the country’s next Supreme Leader. The monarchy was abolished in 1979 and the Islamic Republic was formed, after which Mojtaba Khamenei is going to take over as the country’s third Supreme Leader.
Yesterday, Sunday (March 8), Bangladesh time, Iranian state media announced the name of the new Supreme Leader. The country’s Assembly of Experts, consisting of 88 religious figures, elected the Supreme Leader. In the final vote, they chose Mojtaba Khamenei as the next Supreme Leader. The Assembly of Experts also called on everyone to support the new leader.
Incidentally, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israeli attack on February 28. The country’s leading media also reported that Khamenei’s daughter, grandson and son-in-law were killed in the attack.
