What Putin said about the Iran war
Russian President Vladimir Putin has clarified his position on the US and Israel’s war with Iran. He called on the US and Israel to stop the war and violence in Iran as soon as possible and return to the path of diplomacy.
Today, Saturday (March 7), Putin spoke by phone with Iranian President Masoud Pjeshkian. In the call, President Putin expressed his condolences for the assassination of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. President Pjeshkian also briefed the Russian President on the latest situation in the war.
Shortly after their call, the Kremlin issued a statement. “Russia urgently calls for an end to all violence in Iran,” the statement said. At the same time, Russia reiterated its position on abandoning the use of force to resolve the existing problems surrounding Iran and the Middle East and returning to the path of politics and diplomacy.
It also said that President Putin is in regular contact with Iran and the Gulf countries of the Middle East and expressed full solidarity in this fight to defend Iran’s sovereignty, independence and self-respect in a phone call with Pezeshkian. Tehran and Washington held 21 days of dialogue on Iran’s nuclear program from February 6 to February 27. The dialogue ended on February 27 without an agreement. The next day, February 28, the US military launched ‘Operation Epic Fury’ in Iran. At the same time, in coordination with Washington, Israel also launched a military operation in Iran called ‘Operation Roaring Lion’. In response to this attack, Iran has repeatedly launched drone and missile attacks on US military bases in Israel and the Middle East. Various international media outlets have reported that Russia is providing intelligence support to Iran in this war.
