Iran appoints IRGC chief
The country has quickly filled the void left by the assassination of Major General Mohammad Pakpour, the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards. The Middle Eastern country has appointed Ahmad Bahidi as the head of the Revolutionary Guards. Bahidi, a former defense and interior minister, was appointed the new commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday (March 1), state media reported. Bahidi is under US sanctions over allegations that security forces used lethal force to suppress nationwide protests in 2022. Earlier, Pakpour, the former IRGC chief, and several senior Iranian military commanders were killed on Saturday. The country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was also killed in an Israeli and US strike.
