Death toll at Iran girls’ school rises to 148

The death toll from a US and Israeli attack on a girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab has risen to 148, with 95 injured. Rescue teams and local residents are still searching through the rubble after the deadly attack on Saturday (February 28). Qatar-based media outlet Al Jazeera reported that the death toll could rise.
The ‘Shajaba Tayyiba’ school in southern Minab is located just 200 feet from an Iranian military base, CNN reported. Satellite imagery analysis showed that the school was once part of the military base, but has been run separately since 2016.
Witnesses and video footage showed extensive damage inside the school. Students were reportedly in classrooms at the time of the attack. US Central Command spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins said they were aware of and investigating reports of civilian casualties. Iran has reacted strongly to the attack, calling it a violation of its sovereignty.
