Policeman dies while arresting suspect in Thakurgaon

An Assistant Sub-Inspector of the police named Shahidul Islam (45) died while arresting a suspect with a warrant in Pirganj, Thakurgaon. The incident took place at around 1 am yesterday, Sunday (February 15) in Senua village of Bhomradah union of the upazila. The deceased Shahidul Islam was working at Pirganj police station. Police said that he died of a heart attack while conducting a raid.
According to police and local sources, a group of policemen from Pirganj police station conducted a raid in Senua village late last night to arrest a suspect with a warrant. While arresting a suspect there and taking him to a police vehicle, ASI Shahidul Islam suddenly felt severe chest pain and fell ill. His colleagues immediately rescued him and took him to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor Dr. Tanzina declared him dead.
Pirganj Police Station OC Md. Mazharul Islam confirmed the incident and said that Shahidul Islam suddenly felt sick while getting into the car after the arrest of the accused. He was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor declared him dead. It is initially believed that he died of a heart attack. The incident has cast a shadow of mourning over the police and the administration. Police sources also said that the body will be handed over to the family after the legal process is completed.
