Case against 26 BNP leaders and activists in Ramgati post-election violence
After the 13th National Parliament election, newly elected MP from Lakshmipur-4 (Ramgati and Kamalnagar) constituency ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan and BNP have taken a strict stand to maintain party discipline and ensure the safety of life and property of the common people. Two separate cases have been filed against 26 BNP leaders and activists in Ramgati, Lakshmipur on charges of violating party instructions, engaging in violence, extortion and weapons training. The case was filed at Ramgati Police Station on Saturday (February 14) night. The police have arrested two accused in the case.
The complaint states that on February 13 and 14, leaders and activists of BNP and allied organizations conducted operations in Char Poragachha, Ramdayal Bazar and Balur Char Sujangram areas of Alexander Union in the upazila. They conducted exercises in the area with domestic weapons and demanded large sums of money from various business establishments and brick kiln owners.
They went to Siddiq Ullah’s brick kiln in Char Poragachha Union and demanded Tk 20 lakh. When they did not get the money, they beat up the brick kiln workers, stopped work and threatened to kill the owner. In addition, the accused vandalized the shop of businessman Monir in Ramdayal Bazar, causing a loss of about Tk 50,000.
On the same day, a group of 20/25 people led by Char Algi Union Chhatra Dal Joint General Secretary Md. Rabbi, Organizing Secretary Md. Raihan, Ward President Md. Ashiq openly practiced with indigenous weapons and displayed their power by exerting political influence. At one stage, the shop of businessman Monir in that market was vandalized. This caused a loss of Tk 50,000 to the businessman.
