UNO-OC involved in Sherpur clash withdrawn
The Election Commission (EC) has announced the withdrawal of the Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sribardi police station, who were involved in the announcement of the manifesto on the same platform in Sherpur and the death of an Upazila Jamaat leader.
This information was given by Akhtar Ahmed, Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat, on Thursday (January 29). He said, “What happened in Sherpur yesterday is condemnable. We have to behave amicably as per our code of conduct. In view of this incident, the UNO and OC have been withdrawn. Action will be taken against the candidates in this incident after the report of the Judicial Investigation Committee.”
He said, “If anyone withdraws his candidacy after the court order after February 8, their names and symbols will not be on the postal ballot.” Earlier, Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Abdul Halim demanded the removal of the Assistant Returning Officer and Officer-in-Charge of Sherpur-3 constituency within 24 hours in the murder of Jamaat leader Rezaul Karim.
