Massive fire in Pakistan, at least 5 dead

A massive fire broke out in a multi-storey shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan. At least 5 people have died. More than 20 people were burnt and injured. The injured have been sent to hospital for treatment. The country’s media outlet The Dawn reported this information in a report on Sunday (January 18). It said that a sudden fire broke out in a multi-storey building called ‘Gul Plaza’ on Jinnah Road in the city on Saturday night. At that time, many people were trapped inside. The fire service quickly reached the spot after receiving the news.
Twelve units of the fire service worked to douse the fire. After a long effort, the firefighters brought the fire under control. However, most of the shops in the building were burnt down. The intensity of the fire also spread to other shops in the building, including cosmetics, clothing and electrical appliances.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tesri expressed grief over the incident. In a statement, he expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family. The state’s Home Minister also expressed deep sorrow. He also directed the authorities to make alternative routes suitable for traffic movement in the fire-hit areas. A police official said the fire broke out due to a short circuit in a shop on the ground floor of the building. An investigation is underway to find out the exact cause.
