Suravi not getting justice: Nahid Islam

National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam has said that July fighter Tahrim Jannat Suravi is not getting justice. He made this comment after meeting recently released July fighter Tahrim Jannat Suravi at her Tongi residence around 12 midnight on Monday (January 5). During this time, he inquired about Suravi’s family. At this time, Nahid Islam told reporters, “Even if Suravi has committed any wrongdoing, she has not got the rights she had as a citizen of the country. The case in which Suravi has been framed is completely fabricated.”
He said, “After August 5, some media outlets are trying to tarnish the character of the July fighters. The incident of Tahrimah Jannat Suravi and the arrest of a student leader in Habiganj are related to the same story. Some media outlets are spreading information against any leader of the July rebellion without verifying the facts. A planned conspiracy is being made before the elections. Our party leaders and activists are keeping a vigilant eye so that Awami League allies can infiltrate the party.”
He called on journalists and media houses to take a neutral stance. He thanked all members of Gazipur Nagorik Party, Yubo Shakti, Chhatra Shakti and Ajani Forum who participated in the strong protest against the remand and release on bail of July fighter Tahrim Jannat Suravi. Leaders and activists from different levels of Gazipur Nagorik Party, Yubo Shakti, Chhatra Shakti and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were present with him at the time.
It is noteworthy that yesterday (January 5) after hearing the case filed by the Senior Judicial Magistrate of Gazipur, Court-2 granted Surbhi a 2-day remand. At that time, protestors protested in the court premises under the banner of students and the public demanding her release, protesting the granting of Surbhi’s remand and raising slogans demanding Surbhi’s release.
That afternoon, Surbhi’s lawyers filed a revision petition in the Additional Chief Judicial Court-1 of Gazipur, seeking cancellation of Surbhi’s remand and bail. After the hearing, the judge canceled Surbhi’s remand order and granted her bail. Then, at around 6:40 pm, Surbhi was released from Gazipur Central Jail. Incidentally, on December 25, controversial July fighter Tahrimah Jannat Surbhi was arrested from her house in Gazipur on charges of extortion.
