Boat sinks in the Atlantic Ocean: 12 bodies recovered
A migrant boat sank in the Atlantic Ocean while heading to the Canary Islands in Spain. More than 150 people are feared dead. The international human rights organization ‘Caminando Fronteras’ reported this information. International media reported that there were about 200 migrants on the boat. Of these, 30 have been rescued alive. The rest are still missing, most of whom are feared dead. So far, 12 deaths have been confirmed after the accident.
The report said that the boat had set off from the coast of Senegal in West Africa. After going to sea, both engines of the boat failed, causing it to lose control. At one point, the boat sank and the passengers fell into the water. Helena Maleno Garcia, head of Caminando Fronteras, said that while many countries around the world are celebrating Christmas, hundreds of families are mourning the loss of their loved ones.
According to international organizations, the Atlantic route to the Canary Islands is one of the most dangerous migration routes in the world. Every year, thousands of people try to enter Europe through this risky sea route in the hope of a better life, a large number of whom suffer fatal accidents. Meanwhile, the Senegalese authorities are investigating the incident. At the same time, human rights organizations have called for strengthening safe migration systems and intensifying rescue operations at sea.
