BNP candidate Jalal and 5 members of his family banned from leaving the country
The court has banned BNP candidate Dr. Jalal Uddin and 5 others from going abroad in the 13th National Parliament election from Chandpur-2 (Matlab) constituency. The ban was imposed on them in the wake of the ACC’s application on charges of acquiring wealth without known income, attempting to legalize money by transferring money to bank accounts and laundering money abroad.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court issued this order today (December 22). Apart from Dr. Jalal Uddin, the other accused are his family members Shahnaz Parveen, Sayeed Mohammad Rizvi, Sayeed Mohammad Alvi and Ayesha Tasinima Tanvi.
The ACC’s application filed in the court states that the accused have earned money illegally and have tried to legalize it by transferring it to various bank accounts in their own names and those of interested parties. In addition, an investigation is underway against them on charges of laundering money abroad.
The petition further states that confidential sources have informed that the accused are preparing to flee the country. If they flee abroad, there is a risk of prolonging or disrupting the search operation.
