Death toll in deadly floods and landslides exceeds 600
Landslides and floods have worsened in various countries in South and Southeast Asia. The death toll in Indonesia has exceeded 300 in the devastating disaster. On the other hand, water levels have risen further in various parts of Thailand and Sri Lanka. Authorities have said that the death toll in Thailand is 160. On the other hand, this number has risen to 153 in Sri Lanka.
Basically, looking at the current flood situation in some countries, it is impossible to understand that some areas were there even a few days ago. Many villages have been submerged under mud due to landslides caused by continuous rains and flash floods. The situation is so dire that it has become difficult for fire service personnel to get out of here, let alone rescue work.
Sumatra, Indonesia, has been the worst affected by the disaster. The situation is most critical in the Tapanuli Tengah area. Most of the areas here have been submerged under mud. Meanwhile, the flood situation in Thailand has not improved. The country has been devastated by the worst floods in three hundred years. The intensity of the floods has washed away various tourist areas. The situation has deteriorated the most in Sangkhla province. Rescue work has become difficult due to the collapse of roads. There is an acute shortage of drinking water.
Meanwhile, the flood situation in Sri Lanka has further deteriorated due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwara. About 1,50,000 people have been displaced. About 3,000 houses have been damaged. A state of emergency has already been declared in the country. The Sri Lankan government has sought international assistance. Several people have also been killed in Malaysia.
