Thailand’s worst rainfall in 300 years kills 33
Heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in Thailand. At least 33 people have died as of Wednesday (November 26). Thai authorities have deployed the army to help control the situation. Last week, 10 southern provinces in the country were hit by widespread flooding. The border trading hub of Hat Yai was hit by its worst rainfall in 300 years, with 335mm of rain recorded in a single day.
Photos posted on social media showed vehicles and homes submerged in the city, with residents waiting on their roofs to be rescued. The incessant rain has also caused natural disasters in neighbouring countries. The death toll in Vietnam has risen to 98 in a week. More than 19,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Malaysia. BBC
