Illegal factories cut off gas connection, lime factories evicted

Illegal lime and foundry factories have been dismantled in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, and gas connections have been disconnected and factories have been evicted. Illegal gas connections were disconnected in the Dighirpar and Bhabanathpur areas of Sonargaon Municipality of the upazila from Tuesday morning to afternoon.
It is known that for a long time, a lime factory and foundry had been illegally built in the Dighirpar area of ​​the municipality and the Bhabanathpur area of ​​the municipality without the attention of the local administration. Gas worth about 20 lakh taka was stolen every month and used in these factories. Mobile courts were run in the area based on secret information. At that time, the lime and foundry factories were demolished with excavators. The illegal gas connections were also cut off. Various equipment including pipes used for gas connections were also seized.
Then, upon receiving news of the operation, the owners and workers of the two factories fled. The illegal gas disconnection operation was led by Milton Roy, Senior Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. Also present were Engineer Shabiul Awal, Sonargaon Zone Manager of Titas Gas Transmission Distribution Company, Senior Officer Jahedul Islam of Sonargaon Fire Service Station and a large number of police personnel.
Engineer Shabiul Awal, Sonargaon Zone Manager of Titas Gas Transmission Distribution Company, said, “After August 5, a group under the umbrella of political leaders illegally connected government gas resources and built lime and casting factories. The two factories have stolen and used government resources worth about Tk 20 lakh every month. This operation will continue in the future as well.”
