Nation awaits Hasina’s verdict: Mirza Fakhrul
The verdict in the case of Sheikh Hasina and three others accused of crimes against humanity at the International Crimes Tribunal will be announced today. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the entire nation is waiting for the verdict.
In a post on his Facebook today (November 17), the BNP Secretary General said, “The verdict in the case against Sheikh Hasina will be announced in Dhaka within a few hours. I hope a fair trial in line with international standards will be ensured. The nation is waiting!”
The verdict in the case of Sheikh Hasina and three others will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television (BTV) and all media outlets in the country. International media outlet Reuters will also broadcast the verdict. In addition, arrangements have been made to watch it live on big screens at various important intersections in Dhaka. A special live broadcast team of BTV has been deployed at the tribunal since this morning. The live team reached the gate of the tribunal after 8 am and took up position. Journalists from local and foreign media have already gathered outside the main gate of the court.
According to court sources, a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will announce the verdict after 11 am. The other two members of the panel are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Justice Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Several levels of security have been increased in the tribunal and Supreme Court area ahead of the verdict. Along with the police, RAB, APBN and BGB, the army has also been deployed. Members of intelligence agencies are also on alert.
